There is nothing more intimidating than the bitter grind, especially once the novelty wears off. But to get somewhere special in life there is just so much damn competition and so many pitfalls that we need to watch out for. So once we cross the dark forest of self doubt, the land mines and the highest peak, we will arrive at a place so incredibly rare, that only the truly dedicated have a chance to reach.

Personally, I can’t imagine how many decisions were affected by myself being terrified of a bad outcome. It’s funny now that I think about it because traits like procrastination and inexperience can be responsible for failure, but nothing comes close to fear, it is the ultimate barrier and once we climb over it and stop caring, the possibilities are truly endless.

For the longest time I always gauged my success by the short term results of my work, but then I realized that a lot of the things I end up doing is for the long term. The seeds I plant today, may yield amazing results much further down the road than we expect, so play the long game and plant as many as possible.

It’s 5am, I’m up. Before I know it, I’m holding my java and sitting at my desk thinking about the tasks at hand. I plan to knock each one out as I go, and put in maximum effort. The last thing I want to be doing is coming up with excuses, because at the end of the day, everything I did gets me that much closer to my goals.

I tend to look at focus as being that initial “gateway drug”, because the moment I focus on something and spend even 10 min on it, I automatically start obsessing. This can be a great thing if we don’t over do it, because we all know what happens when we drink too many shots of vodka!
