This week in blogging, writing, and content creation: Jan 26 – Feb 1, 2019

Happy Friday everyone!

Welcome to another weekly round-up post from our growing community of bloggers, writers, vloggers, podcasters, and other fellow creatives. In short, each and every week we hand-pick five top posts from a pool of the highest voted user-submitted/created posts in the community and include them in this weekly round-up blog post, along with the newsletter for all of our e-mail subscribers. As per our submission rules, posts shared can not be older than 30 days, meaning that all of the following are fresh and recent!

Here are this week’s (Jan 26 – Feb 1, 2019) most valuable posts from the /t/BES content creators community:

1. Focus on the Process For Long-Term Success
“I feel like I need big wins to justify my efforts. I need to sign the next big contract. I need to post the next story that gets 1,000 views. I need to add 100 new people to my email list. I don’t. I need to keep growing.”

2. How LiveJournal Pioneered (Then Lost) Blogging
“It didn’t even have a post button,” Fitzpatrick recalls. “It was just the Enter button. My early LiveJournal posts were stuff like ‘going downstairs to get a Coke,’ or ‘I’m bored.’ It was very much like early Twitter.”

3. BuzzFeed Laid Off Its Director of Quizzes Because People Are Willing to Make Quizzes For Free
“A very large portion of that traffic comes from a constant flow of amateur quizzes made by community users. It’s kinda amazing how much revenue-generating traffic the site gets from unpaid community volunteers.”

4. We Value Your Privacy Now, But Maybe Not Later
“I highly doubt AtlasObscura actually values my privacy when the only option is to ‘accept’. If you actually follow to the privacy policy to ‘withdraw consent’, access to content is still blocked by this dialog on the next visit.”

5. WordPress, Google Team on New CMS For Local News Publishers
The new CMS is “an advanced open-source publishing and revenue-generating platform for news orgs.” It’s targeted specifically to smaller, local publishers that have struggled with traffic, revenue, and resources.

That’s all folks! You can view all the rest of the community’s top submissions (11 more) here.

Tune in next Friday for another great weekend reading list that will make you a better and more informed blogger, writer, and/or content creator! If you have anything awesome to submit that others might enjoy, feel free to do so!

And don’t forget to help other fellow creatives find this nifty resource by sharing it around! Thanks!
